SYDNEY: One man has died and another has been arrested following a shooting in a public park south-east of Brisbane in the Australian state of Queensland on Tuesday night (Dec 2).
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said in a statement on Wednesday that emergency services were called to Hugh Muntz Park in the town of Beenleigh, 30 km south-east of Brisbane, at around 10:40 p.m. local time on Tuesday, following reports of a man being shot.
Officers arrived at the scene and found a 35-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was treated by ambulance paramedics, but was declared deceased shortly after.
Police established a crime scene and subsequently identified a stolen vehicle that left the park shortly after the shooting.
The vehicle was sighted nearby and intercepted by police before the male driver fled on foot.
Dog squad officers swept the area and arrested a 22-year-old man after he was found hiding underwater.
Police allegedly found ammunition while searching the man and a discarded firearm that was located nearby.
A second crime scene was declared on the stolen vehicle and police are continuing to investigate the incident. - Xinhua
