Myanmar inaugurates space museum in Yangon

YANGON: Myanmar inaugurated the Space Museum in Yangon on Sunday (Dec 1), local media The Mirror reported on Monday.

Myanmar's Acting President Senior General Min Aung Hlaing unveiled the museum's signboard and sprinkled scented water on the plaque, the report said.

Speaking at the inauguration event, Min Aung Hlaing said that the successful opening of the Space Museum would give students and young people the opportunity to explore space-related knowledge they previously encountered only in books or on television in one place, the report said.

He added that the museum was established to inspire the creativity of Myanmar's younger generations, encouraging new dreams about space and science beyond what they learn in school, the report said.

He also said that the ideas and inspiration gained from the museum would help foster future astronauts, scientists, engineers and specialists who could contribute to Myanmar's modern development, the report said.

The Space Museum in Yangon, formerly the planetarium, is located at People's Park in Yangon. It features exhibits on deep-space exploration, the space station, rockets launched into space, orbiting satellites, spacecraft and astronauts, planets, constellations and other space-related topics, it added. - Xinhua
