BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) arrested six foreign nationals during an enforcement sweep recently targeting rented houses and rooms in Mukim Kilanas and Mukim Sengkurong, as part of efforts to curb immigration violations and offences linked to human trafficking and smuggling.

The operation — codenamed Operasi Panyap 120/2025 — saw a total of 11 foreigners inspected. Six were detained and brought to the Law Enforcement Division for further investigation.

According to the department, all six detainees are believed to have overstayed in the country in violation of Section 15(1), Immigration Act, Chapter 17.

One of them is also suspected of working illegally while holding only a Visit Pass, an offence under Regulation 9(4) of the Immigration Regulations, Chapter 17. Additionally, four of the individuals inspected failed to produce any original identification documents during the operation.

The enforcement exercise was carried out under the laws administered by the department, including the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Order, Chapter 230, and the Prevention of People Smuggling Order, Chapter 229.

The INRD encouraged the public to continue supporting enforcement efforts by reporting immigration offenders through its hotline at 8734888 or 8753888 (Bandar Seri Begawan) and 8984111 (Kuala Belait). - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
