YANGON: On the night of the Tazaungmone full moon (November 4), large crowds of people were seen searching for Pant-saku donations along several main roads and in some townships across Yangon.
The Pant-saku donations small packages containing items like money, food, or daily necessities, discreetly placed by donors in public spaces such as on tree branches, electric posts, or by the roadside.
The activity was especially noticeable in Yankin, Sanchaung, Bahan, Thaketa, Tamwe and Dagon townships, where many people gathered to collect the falling lanterns.
The Tazaungmone month is an auspicious time for Myanmar people, traditionally marked by the offering of Kathina robes and ceremonies to conclude the Buddhist lent. On the full moon day of Tazaungmone, releasing hot-air balloons is a long-standing Myanmar tradition believed to bring merit and joy.
Due to past accidents, including fatalities during the Tazaungdaing festival last year, social organisations in some townships were seen assisting and taking safety measures during this year’s Pant-saku donation-collecting activities. - Eleven Media/ANN
