Lao Alliance expands pharmaceutical production


VIENTIANE: The Lao Alliance Pharmaceutical Factory No. 2 officially opened its doors on Friday (Oct 17) at Simmano village, Hadxayfong district, Vientiane, marking a major step forward in Laos’ efforts to strengthen its pharmaceutical production and promote national healthcare development.

The opening ceremony was graced by Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, who presided over the event, alongside Deputy Minister of Health Dr Aphone Vixathep, company executives, government officials, representatives from international organisations and invited guests.

The new factory, operated by Lao Alliance Pharmaceutical Group (LAPG), represents a US$150 million investment in advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing. The facility is equipped with modern technology that meets international standards, positioning it as one of the country’s most sophisticated pharmaceutical production bases.

In her address, Dr Aphone Vixathep, Deputy Minister of Health, praised the factory as a significant milestone in the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Laos, and commended the investors and developers for their contribution to improving public health.

“This factory is a state-of-the-art facility that meets international standards and will play a crucial role in increasing the production of quality medicines in Laos,” Dr Aphone said. “Its products will not only serve the domestic market but also have the potential to reach international markets.”

She added that the Ministry of Health would continue to provide regulatory support to ensure the factory operates in full compliance with safety and quality standards.

Chief Executive Officer of the Lao Alliance Pharmaceutical Factory No. 2, Kimmy Savatvyphane, expressed gratitude to the government and all partners for their support and trust.

“Today is a historic day filled with pride,” Savatvyphane said. “This factory is not only an expansion of our capacity but also a commitment to producing safe, effective, and affordable medicines for the Lao people.”

She noted that the new facility will focus on producing essential and advanced biotech medicines, create new employment opportunities, and develop local expertise in modern pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The Lao Alliance Pharmaceutical Factory No. 2 stands as a testament to Laos’ growing capability in the health and industrial sectors, paving the way for greater self-sufficiency in medicine production and enhanced healthcare access for its people.
