Brunei's OKU Got Talent boosts confidence, awareness, acceptance and support

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Muhammad A’adi Aidil Fazakir shone brightly in his performance and was placed first in the fourth series of the OKU Got Talent for the Belait District Saturday (Oct 18).

Organised by the Department of Community Development, through their People with Disability (OKU) Division, the competition was held as part of a series, starting in the Brunei-Muara District, where special needs individuals competed on stage showcasing their range of talents.

Acting Assistant Director of OKU Division, Nurul Nazurah Jaya explained that eight people with disability competed in the fourth series held specifically for the Belait District, with the first being held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Berakas on August 25, 30 and 31.

“The initiative aims to highlight the diverse talents of the disabled community, as the competition serves as a platform for these talents to express their potential, while also boosting their confidence.”

The competition also serves to raise awareness of the talents and abilities of people with disability, while also fostering acceptance and community support.

While Muhammad A’adi Aidil wowed the judges with his rendition of popular English songs, which he remixed and performed on stage during the competition, not far behind him was Mohammad Nazhirul Azhwar Azrul with his traditional singing performance of Lemak Manis in second place, followed by Safrinah Hashim in third place as she performed a traditional dance, Adai-Adai. All participants received participation awards from the Acting Assistant Director of the OKU Division, who was also one of the judges.

With the series held in the Belait District concluded, Nurul Nazurah looks forward to the grand finals of the competition, as she explained that, “The top three participants from each series will compete in the finals for the OKU Got Talent, slated to be held in December.” - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
