Myanmar marks 10th anniversary of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement with call for lasting peace

YANGON: A ceremony to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) was held on Wednesday (Oct 15) in Myanmar's capital Naypyidaw.

Acting President of Myanmar, Chairman of the National Unity and Peacemaking Central Committee and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended and delivered a speech.

In his speech, Min Aung Hlaing said that the fundamental requirement for Myanmar today is peace and stability. With peace and stability, people will be able to pursue their livelihoods and build a secure, stable, and prosperous socio-economic life.

"Therefore, we must continue our earnest efforts persistently to achieve peace and stability, the fundamental prerequisites for the development of the country and its people," he said.

He also urged all citizens to uphold mindfulness with wisdom, stand firmly on the path of the NCA, and work together with patience and unity to achieve nationwide and lasting peace in the future.

The NCA was signed between the government of Myanmar and ethnic armed organisations on Oct 15, 2015. - Xinhua
