Woman accused of molesting another woman among five people to be charged with outrage of modesty

SINGAPORE: A 31-year-old woman who allegedly molested another woman will be among five people who are expected to be charged with outrage of modesty on Wednesday (Oct 15).

Four men – aged 30, 41, 47 and 72 – are also set to be charged on the same day.

The woman allegedly molested a 25-year-old woman along Duxton Hill on July 11.

Police established her identity through follow-up investigations, as well as with the aid of images from CCTVs. She was later arrested.

She will be charged in court with one count of outrage of modesty.

In another case, a 30-year-old man allegedly molested a 24-year-old woman along Veerasamy Road on May 17.

The 41-year-old, meanwhile, is accused of molesting a 29-year-old woman along Bayfront Avenue on July 7.

The fourth accused, a 72-year-old man, allegedly molested a 47-year-old woman along Temple Street on Jan 28.

Finally, the 47-year-old man allegedly molested a 33-year-old woman along Rochor Canal Road on Aug 4.

All four men were arrested at the scene by police officers. They will be charged with one count each of outrage of modesty.

If convicted, they could face a jail term of up to three years, a fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments. The woman cannot be caned.

The police said they have “zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who prey on unsuspecting victims and who threaten the personal safety of those in the community”.

“Offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law,” they added.

Police also urged the public to remain vigilant, especially at crowded areas, and to report to the police if they witness or are aware of a case of molestation.

They also advised victims to move away from the perpetrator and call the police as soon as it is safe to do so.

“While ensuring their personal safety, victims should try to note key details such as the perpetrator’s physical appearance, clothing, and the time and location of the incident,” they added. - The Straits Times/ANN
