Malaysia's very own 'pop-yeh-yeh' band Masdo celebrates its 10th anniversary in grand style with a magical retro-night concert

KUALA LUMPUR: This year’s Merdeka night was celebrated in a truly special way as Malaysia’s beloved modern retro band, MASDO, closed the month of August with their milestone anniversary concert, “Al-Kisah Kugiran MASDO 10 Tahun”, at Zepp Kuala Lumpur.

Organised by renowned event organiser Hitman Solutions together with Kugiran Masdo, the concert was a colourful celebration that drew thousands of fans, reliving a decade of MASDO’s music filled with memories, triumphs, and the ups and downs of their journey.

Not only was it a tribute to MASDO’s 10-year journey, it was also a night to celebrate Malaysia’s Independence Day together through the unifying power of music.

The concert hall erupted in cheers as the lights went down and the 'pop-yeh-yeh' group took the stage. A visual montage of MASDO’s journey since 2015 was projected on the giant screen, sparking nostalgia before the band burst onto stage with their opening number, “Teruna & Dara”.

From that moment on, the energy never once slowed down. Fans sang along to favourites including “Janji Manis”, “Dinda”, and “Ratu Hati”; their voices echoing through the hall.

The night became even more unforgettable with a stellar line-up of guest artists, each bringing their own magic to the stage.

Special guest Heidi Moru joined MASDO for a powerful rendition of “Pujaanku”, adding a refreshing new dimension to the beloved hit.

The renowned rock singer Noh Salleh then took the spotlight with “Inilah Jalannya” before returning with the full force of Hujan to deliver a rousing performance of “Janji Manis”.

The energy reached its peak when Hujan unleashed their iconic anthem “Aku Scandal”, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Adding more colors to the night, Nisa on violin and Cakam on keyboard stirred emotions with a heartfelt “Ratu Hati”, while Fizan of Bittersweet charmed the audience with “Nearly Near You”. Each guest brought their own flair, making the celebration truly one of a kind!

Specially arranged renditions of MASDO’s signature songs, including “Bunga” and “Berduka-Lara”, elevated the night with intimacy and power, striking an emotional chord with the audience.

As the last notes rang out, Zepp Kuala Lumpur transformed into a sea of stars as thousands lifted their mobile phones high; a sight that symbolised both 10 years of MASDO’s journey and the spirit of Independence Day.

Cheman, Manager of MASDO, expressed the band’s gratitude, saying: “Tonight is not just a celebration for us as a band, but for the entire MASDO family – especially the fans who have stood by us through every step of this journey.

"We started with nothing but a small dream, and tonight we witnessed thousands of voices singing along to every lyric with us. That is the greatest gift MASDO could ever receive. Thank you for keeping these 10 years alive together with us, and for ensuring that modern retro music continues to thrive and remain relevant today.”

The crowd’s response was overwhelming, with fans dancing, cheering, and singing in unison from the first song until the final encore. Some described the concert as “a trip back to the golden era of retro music”, while others hailed it as “MASDO’s best concert to date.”

Rohit Rampal, CEO of Hitman Solutions, praised the night’s success: “Tonight’s concert proves that modern retro music is not just nostalgia – it is alive, evolving, and thriving. MASDO has built their own legacy, and we at Hitman Solutions are proud to be part of this journey. Tonight marks a pivotal moment in history, not only for MASDO, but for the Malaysian music industry as a whole.”

“Al-Kisah Kugiran MASDO 10 Tahun” was more than just a concert – it was a celebration of music, friendship, and love that binds MASDO with their fans. Falling on Malaysia’s Independence Day, the magical night at Zepp Kuala Lumpur stood as proof that after 10 years, MASDO remains strong, fresh, and relevant, continuing to carve their path as Malaysia’s number one modern retro band.
