BANGKOK: Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati’s bloodstream infection has improved and her blood pressure has stabilised, the Bureau of the Royal Household said.

The 46-year-old princess, the oldest of King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s seven children, is still being administered antibiotics to control the infection, the bureau said in a statement late Sunday (Aug 31). It was the third health update on the princess issued by the palace in less than a month.

Bajrakitiyabha has been unconscious for nearly three years after collapsing due to heart arrhythmia in December 2022. Medical equipment is still being used to support her kidneys and her lungs, the bureau said.

A team of doctors at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok continues to closely monitor the princess’s condition and provide full care, the palace said.

Bajrakitiyabha was seen by some analysts as a potential heir to the throne, which would make her Thailand’s first female monarch. King Vajiralongkorn, 73, hasn’t appointed an heir since taking the throne in 2016. Since becoming ill, her portraits have been shown in public places in the country, with messages wishing her a speedy recovery. - Bloomberg
