CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The streets of this capital city of Northern Mindanao exploded in colours and vibrant beats on Tuesday (Aug 26) as 10 contingents took part in a street dancing competition to mark the Higalaay (Friendship) Festival.

The street dancing performance of contingents started at 1pm as they paraded toward the Don Gregorio Pelaez Memorial Sports Complex for the ultimate showdown performance.

The rain that poured as evening set in did not dampen the enthusiasm of performers and the spectators, who were later entertained by actress Jackie Gonzaga.

The contingent from Barangay Lumbia bagged the plum awards for street dancing and showdown, taking home up to P550,000 as cash prize.

The month-long festival is now on its final week, its high point being the feast day of Saint Augustine, the city’s patron, on Aug 28.

On Monday, locals and visitors were regaled by the performance of 10 contingents of elementary school students during the rhythmic field demonstration in which South City Central School emerged as grand champion.

On Sunday, the city’s skyline lit up with the performance of five entries and one guest during the pyromusical competition at the Rio de Oro Boulevard that drew 25,000 people.
