BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati Tajuddin attended the 2025 South-East Asian Ministers of Education Organization (Seameo) Executive Committee Meeting, the 20th Asean Senior Officials Meeting on Education and the 15th Asean Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting on Education held back-to-back in Bangkok, Thailand from Aug 20-22.
The annual Seameo exco brings together senior officials to advise Seameo high officials on the overall thrusts and effort of Seameo Units, set directions and make recommendations on the management of the Seameo Secretariat and the overall development of the SeameoCentres.
Matters discussed included reports on the Seameo Secretariat’s work plan, results framework, as well as proposals and reports of projects and programmes under Seameo.
Decisions were made to endorse several proposals for the 48th Seameo High Officials’ Meeting, scheduled for November 2025.
Following the Seameo exco meeting, the Brunei delegation attended the 20th Asean Senior Officials Meeting on Education (Asean SOM-ED) and the 15th Asean Plus Three Senior Officials Meeting on Education (Asean SOM-ED+3).
The meetings are held annually to discuss ongoing regional education issues and deliberate on the progress of regional educational plans, initiatives and activities with Asean member states as well as the Plus Three countries – China, Japan and South Korea. The meetings also explored further collaboration in education with dialogue partners.
During the meeting, the permanent secretary updated the meeting on the progress of activities led by the ministry under the Asean Work Plan on Education 2021-2025.
These include initiatives by Seameo Voctech and the Brunei Darussalam Leaders and Teachers Academy. Officials from Brunei’s MoE were also present. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
