Laos seeks to create safe learning environment in schools and encourage more young children to attend school

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Laos' Ministry of Education and Sports is working to strengthen child protection and safety in primary schools as part of broader efforts to improve the quality of education in the country.

The ministry, in collaboration with its partners, is conducting training sessions from July to August for 737 teachers on child protection and safety, highlighting its commitment to safeguard the well-being of all students, the Lao People's Army News reported on Friday.

According to the report, teachers play a crucial role in creating a safe learning environment, which directly influences students' success.

In Laos, while primary school enrollment is high, many children face challenges in accessing quality education and staying in school, particularly those from poorer and ethnic minority communities.

Efforts are also underway to address issues like early grade dropout, low learning achievement, and the need for inclusive and child-friendly environments. - Xinhua
