Vietnamese woman accused of evading taxes on US$32mil sales of diamonds and luxury bags, including Hermes, LV, Versace


HANOI (Vietnam News/ANN): A Hanoi woman has been arrested for allegedly evading taxes on more than VND834 billion (US$32 million) in online sales of luxury handbags, watches, diamonds and other high-end goods.

Nguyen Thi Thu Huong was detained on suspicion of tax evasion, Hanoi police said on July 10. Six of her employees involved in taking orders, packaging, customer messaging and advertising were also summoned for questioning.

Police said Huong ran an e-commerce business selling high-end products on social media under the brand Hycloset – New things by hy.

Since 2020, she had sold accessories, handbags, watches, and diamonds from brands like Versace, Louis Vuitton, Cartier and Hermes.

Investigators estimate her business generated revenues exceeding VND834 billion. However, she allegedly failed to declare or pay taxes, evading an estimated VND12.5 billion ($490,000).

On July 9, police raided her residence, livestream sales venue and warehouse, seizing nearly VND10 billion ($392,000) worth of handbags, watches, diamonds and other accessories.
