Myanmar job scam: Another 16 Malaysians back home


A total of 16 Malaysians involved in a job scam fraud syndicate in Myawaddy, Myanmar, safely arrived at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, on Wednesday (April 30, 2025). BUKIT KAYU HITAM: (Bernama) A further 16 Malaysians who were victims of a job scam syndicate in Myawaddy, Myanmar, have safely arrived at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam Wednesday (April 30).

They arrived at 4.30pm and were handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further investigation.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this was the fourth group of Malaysians successfully repatriated following earlier operations on February 24 (15 individuals), March 12 (25 individuals), and March 26 (24 individuals).

"To date, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully repatriated 80 Malaysians, including the 16 individuals who arrived today.

"All these operations were carried out through close cooperation between agencies including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health, PDRM, the Immigration Department of Malaysia, and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla,” it said.

The ministry also expressed its utmost appreciation to the Governments of Thailand and Myanmar for their continued cooperation in facilitating and expediting the repatriation process of the 16 Malaysians.

The statement added that the ministry remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of Malaysians abroad and will continue to provide consular assistance through Malaysia’s diplomatic missions overseas to those in need. - Bernama
