NEW DELHI: The Pakistan Army has made an intrusion by crossing the Line of Control (LoC) into the Indian side and also violated the ceasefire agreement by opening unprovoked firing in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), a statement by the Indian Army said on Wednesday (April 2).

The Indian Army has been put on high alert along the LoC following intrusion by the Pakistan Army that also resorted to ceasefire violation on Tuesday afternoon in the Krishna Ghati Sector in the Poonch district.

In a statement today, the defence spokesman said, “On 01 April 25, a mine blast occurred in Krishna Ghati Sector due to Pakistan Army intrusion across the LC. This was followed by unprovoked firing and ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army. Own troops responded effectively in a controlled and calibrated manner. The situation is under control and being closely monitored”.

“Indian Army reiterates the importance of upholding the tenets of DGsMO understanding of 2021 to maintain peace along the Line of Control,” the spokesman added.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Pakistan Army and other agencies were trying to push heavily armed terrorists into the Indian territory by giving them a cover of firing.

Pakistan Army personnel and terrorists are learnt to have suffered five casualties in their attempt to force infiltration of terrorists from the Krishna Ghati sector on the LoC in Poonch district last evening.

The intrusion bid was made amidst three powerful blasts on the LoC. However, the exact number of casualties couldn’t be ascertained immediately. The ceasefire has been observed between the India and Pakistan Armies on the LoC and the International Border since February 2021.

Meanwhile, security forces have launched search operations in five areas of Poonch district.

The search operations were conducted by joint teams of the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). - The Statesman/ANN
