Brunei's Temburong bridge project now benefits local contractors, workers

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): The Temburong bridge linking Brunei's remote Temburong district and the capital was built by joint efforts of hundreds of workers, contractors and suppliers, a minister said at Brunei's legislative council on Thursday.

The project involves 115 local workers, 40 subcontractors, and 10 suppliers, said Muhammad Juanda, Brunei's minister of development.

He also added that four packages were involved in the construction of the bridge, involving marine bridge construction, shipping bridge, land bridge and the power system, lights and closed circuit television packages.

The local companies were involved as the main consultant, project management, environmental impact assessment consultant, checking- independent engineers, surveyors and product suppliers, said the minister.

The 30-km bridge, also known as Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Bridge, was officially named in honor of the current Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's late father in July 2020 after six years of construction. - Xinhua
