Asean sec-gen to lead key talks on region's future and improve its community vision programmes

PHNOM PENH/JAKARTA (Bernama): Asean Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn will lead the Asean Secretariat delegation at the 22nd High-Level Task Force Meeting on the Asean Community’s Post-2025 Vision in Penang, Malaysia, starting Tuesday.

The 21st meeting, co-chaired by Malaysia and the Philippines, was held in Manila on Feb 3, during which officials worked on refining the draft Declaration to adopt the Asean Community Vision, along with the Strategic Plans for the three Community Pillars and Asean Connectivity.

According to the Asean Secretariat, as part of his visit to Malaysia, Kao is also scheduled to meet Malaysia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, in Kuala Lumpur on March 20, further strengthen Asean’s diplomatic ties and emphasise Malaysia’s crucial role in shaping the region’s future.

Kao, a key member of the task force, highlighted last June that Malaysia’s role as Asean  Chair is central to the review and adoption of the Asean Community Vision 2045, which includes four strategic plans aimed at enhancing regional integration and connectivity.

On Jan 1, 2025, Malaysia officially assumed the Asean Chairmanship under the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability”, a commitment to fostering a united, resilient, and prosperous Asean. - Bernama
