Angkor Spring Equinox set for March 20-22; thousands of visitors expected in three days

PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): Cambodian Authorities say that the Spring Equinox at Angkor – an event that draws thousand of tourists to Cambodia’s iconic Angkor Wat – will take place on March 20-22.

The equinox occurs twice a year in the Angkor region of Siem Reap, in March, the dry season equinox, and in September, the rainy season equinox.

In March, the sun rises over the central tower of Angkor Wat on March 21.

However, some people wait to observe and watch this event for three days between March 20-22.

The Equinox event occurs twice a year – the Vernal Equinox occurs in March and the Autumnal Equinox occurs in September.

More than 10,000 tourists were at Angkor Wat at 5am to watch the sunrise through the central peak of Angkor Wat in September. - Khmer Times
