Scoot reinstates card processing fees for flights from Singapore

SINGAPORE: Scoot customers who book flights departing from Singapore now have to pay payment processing fees.

The move, which took effect on Feb 10, was made to cover the cost of processing fees charged by financial institutions when payment is made with credit or debit cards, the airline said in a Tuesday (Feb 18) reply to queries from The Straits Times.

This reverses a 2019 decision by the low-cost carrier to remove all such fees, and comes after the reintroduction in 2024 of similar fees for flights leaving other territories. These areas include Australia, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.

The additional fees will range from 1.4 per cent to 2.26 per cent, said Scoot, but do not apply to payment methods such as PayNow, Scoot vouchers and KrisFlyer miles.

“Customers can decide on the payment option that best suits their needs,” the airline said, adding that it will continue to review its fees and charges regularly, and make adjustments where required. - The Straits Times/ANN
