Nearly 6kg of heroin seized in central Myanmar

YANGON: Myanmar authorities have seized 5.94 kg of heroin in Mandalay region of central Myanmar, the state-run daily The Mirror reported on Thursday (Jan 16).

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a vehicle in Mandalay's Mahaaungmyay township on Jan 7 and confiscated the heroin.

Four suspects were arrested at the scene, the report said.

Later that evening, a search was conducted at the house of one of the arrested suspects in Chanayethazan township, and 30 bottles of 100-liter phensedyl were seized, the report said.

Investigations revealed that the narcotics were destined for the Myanmar-India border, the report added.

Additional three suspects connected to the cases were also arrested, it said.

The suspects have been charged under the country's law, and a further investigation is ongoing, the report added. - Xinhua
