Single-person households in Japan expected to top 40% in 27 prefectures in 2050; rise attributed to increase in unmarried people

TOKYO: The percentage of single-person households is expected to exceed 40% in 27 prefectures in 2050, according to a projection released by the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research.

The institute released its projections, which are based on the 2020 national census, on Tuesday (Nov 12).
