Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said on Sept 10, there would be no reimposition of the stringent measures implemented at the height of the pandemic since the mpox situation in the country remains under control. — INQUIRER FILE PHOTO

MANILA: Three new cases of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) were recorded in the country, bringing the count to 18, Department of Health (DOH) chief Teodoro Herbosa said on Monday (Sept 16).

Five cases have recovered while 11 cases are still undergoing home isolation and have not transmitted the virus to others, the DOH said.

“What’s good is, that all the 18 cases we picked up have not yet spread the virus to others,” Herbosa said.

"They have no epidemiological link,” he added.

No deaths have been reported due to mpox so far.

The World Health Organization again declared mpox a public health emergency of international concern—the highest alert—after the surge of cases in African countries. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
