Shocking tragedy as four children killed after tree falls on tricycle in Philippines' Lanao del Sur province

MANILA (Xinhua): Four children have been killed and three others injured after a tree fell on a moving tricycle in Lanao del Sur province in southern Philippines, police said Sunday.

The accident happened at around 2pm local time on Friday along a highway while the victims, all students aged seven, 12, 13 and 15, aboard the tricycle were heading to a school in Malabang town.

The tricycle driver was also critically injured along with two other passengers.

Police said strong winds uprooted the roadside tree, crushing the tricycle. All four were pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Ministry of Social Services and Development office providing financial assistance to the families of the fatalities and medical asssistance top the survivors. - Xinhua
