Singapore to have four long public holiday weekends in 2025

There will be 11 gazetted public holidays throughout the year in 2025. - ST

SINGAPORE: There will be four long weekends in 2025, according to a statement by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on Monday (Aug 5).

The first long weekend will be ushered in by Hari Raya Puasa on March 31, which falls on a Monday, followed by Good Friday on April 18.

Both Vesak Day (May 12) and Deepavali (Oct 20) will also fall on a Monday.

There are 11 gazetted public holidays throughout the year, starting with New Year’s Day, which falls on a Wednesday.

The others are Chinese New Year (Jan 29 and 30, Wednesday and Thursday), Labour Day (May 1, Thursday), Hari Raya Haji (June 7, Saturday), National Day (Aug 9, Saturday), and Christmas Day (Dec 25, Thursday).

MOM said employees under the Employment Act are entitled to pay during the 11 public holidays.

Employees who are required to work on a public holiday are entitled to an extra day’s salary at the basic rate of pay, in addition to their gross rate of pay for that day.

Alternatively, employers and employees may mutually agree to substitute a working day with a public holiday.

Employers also have the option of granting time off in lieu, based on an agreed number of hours for working on a public holiday.

This applies to managers and executives, workmen earning more than $4,500 a month and non-workmen earning more than $2,600 a month. - The Straits Times/ANN
