Multiple labour offences uncovered

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Labour Department conducted an operation dubbed Operasi Siaga in two areas in Kampong Kiulap recently leading to uncovering several labour offences.

The inspection found a mobile phone repair service centre violating the conditions of the foreign worker licence by failing to pay overtime, failing to provide leave on a public holiday, failing to provide first aid equipment and assigning a worker employed as a labourer to man the cashier.

The employers if found guilty, may each be subjected to a fine of up to BND1,000 for each offence.

The failure to pay the fine will result in the employers being produced in court. The Labour Department reminded employers to always monitor their welfare in accordance with the requirements set by the Employment Order 2009.

Employers are also warned against misusing the foreign worker licence which is a violation of the Employment Order 2009.
