Abandoned vehicle yields a tonne of drugs

PHNOM PENH: Authorities are hunting for the people behind the discovery of more than one tonne of illegal drugs that were discovered in an abandoned vehicle in Preah Vihear province.

Local media outlets reported that the authorities investigated a suspicious pick-up truck close to the Laos border, in Sa’ang village and commune of Preah Vihear’s Chey Sen district on the evening of Jan 20. They checked the rear of the vehicle and found 1,020 individual 1kg packages of narcotics.

Police said the packages were packed into 33 separate bags.

“The suspects remain on the loose, but specialised drug enforcement officers are conducting a thorough investigation, and we expect to identify them shortly,” said the police. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
