Cambodia: Drunk driver kills four in terrible tragedy in Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH (Phnom Penh Post/ANN): A road traffic accident claimed four lives and caused injuries to three others in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district on late Saturday (Jan 20) evening.

Phnom Penh Police said that the accident was caused by a pickup truck driven by a drunk driver, who is reportedly an official at a government institution.

The pickup damaged two other cars and four motorbikes, killing four at the scene and leaving three injured.

Police said the driver's blood alcohol was measured at 0.54, far beyond the legal limit.

The driver will be automatically subjected to a two million riel (US$500) fine, exclusive of other legal action.

The police are currently preparing a case against the driver, with charges expected soon. - Phnom Penh Post/ANN
