BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): A 23-year-old housekeeping staffer at a hotel in Brunei's Gadong was sentenced to six months’ jail after pleading guilty to misappropriating a guest’s property.

Magistrate Syaffina binti Shahif heard from prosecutor Abdul Musawwir Awang Mahli that Indonesian national Syaiful Bahri was cleaning a room after the guest checked out on September 25 when he came across a mobile phone, which he decided to pocket.

When the owner of the mobile phone realised it had gone missing, he tried to call the number but was unable to get through as the phone had been switched off.

A few weeks later, on October 19, the owner’s sibling tried the number and was answered by Syaiful, who immediately hung up.

The owner then lodged a police report, leading to the arrest of the Indonesian national. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
