Brunei launches nationwide 5G mobile services


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 24 (Xinhua): Brunei government has announced this week at the Digital Future Conference and Exhibition that 5th Generation (5G) mobile services are officially activated and available nationwide.

The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), the country's telecommunication regulator, said in a press release that together with Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd, the Sultanate's wholesale telecommunication service provider to both national and international clients,

The are three retail telecommunication providers, namely DST, Imagine and Progresif, are providing 5G services starting from June 22.

The Chinese Embassy in Brunei told Xinhua that Chinese companies, including Huawei Brunei and China Communication Services Brunei, have been actively involved in the construction and services of the country's telecommunication network for years, making lots of preliminary preparations for the official activation of the 5G network and making their contributions to the development of the local telecommunications industry.

According to AITI, 90 percent of Brunei's populated areas are covered by mobile services that are 5G-ready with continuous efforts to improve nationwide coverage. - Xinhua
