Indonesia's dangerous Riau drug ring mastermind arrested by Malaysian police

JAKARTA, May 23 (Bernama): A man known as Marno who has been on the run from Riau district police on charges of drug trafficking has been arrested in Malaysia, Indonesian media reported Tuesday.

Marno is believed to be the mastermind behind the 411kg of methamphetamine seized by the Riau police.

"The suspect had 62kg of methamphetamine with him when arrested by Johor police,” Riau district police’s narcotic director Commissioner Yos Guntur was quoted by online media as saying.

He pointed out that the arrest was a testament to the close cooperation between the Malaysian Police and Riau Police in tackling cross-border drug trafficking syndicates.

Riau district police had seized 290 kilograms of methamphetamine during an operation early early this year, including 121 kilograms of methamphetamine in 2022 linked to Marno’s drug trafficking ring. - Bernama
