SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): Motorists entering Singapore via the Woodlands Checkpoint were caught in heavy traffic as early as 7am on Thursday (March 23), the start of a four-day-long weekend in Johor.
Thursday is the first day of Ramadan and the birthday of Johor’s ruler, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar – both public holidays in the state. With the state adopting a Friday-Saturday weekend, Sunday has been declared a replacement holiday.
Live camera feed on the OneMotoring portal showed heavy congestion stretching across the Causeway from Johor at around 7am.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in a Facebook post at 8am that there is heavy arrival traffic at Woodlands Checkpoint.
“Delays are expected and travellers are advised to check traffic conditions before embarking on their journey,” it added.
ICA updated the post at 9.15am to say that heavy arrival traffic at the checkpoint has subsided.
Johor police said on Wednesday that it is expecting heavy traffic at major roads and highways in the state in the coming days and will deploy officers to ensure smooth travelling for road users.
