Half-submerged ship spills diesel fuel into Philippine waters (update)


Diesel that powered the MT Princess Empress has left a spill spanning at least 5km long and 500m wide, said the Philippine Coast Guard. - PHILIPPINE COAST GUARD

MANILA (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): A motor tanker loaded with 800,000 litres of industrial oil sank on Tuesday (Feb 28), spilling its diesel fuel off the coast of Naujan town in Oriental Mindoro, an island province about 207km to the south of the capital Manila.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said the diesel that powered the MT Princess Empress left a spill spanning at least 5km long and 500m wide in the surrounding waters. The ship is operated by RDC Reield Marine Services.
