Magnitude 5.5 earthquake strikes Sulawesi

JAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network): An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 struck Sulawesi on Monday (Feb 27), the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

The quake was at a depth of 12km (7.46 miles), EMSC said.

On Friday, an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 struck north of Halmahera island, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said. The quake was at a depth of 100 km, EMSC added.

In early February, at least four people were killed when an earthquake struck the eastern part of Papua and crumpled a waterfront restaurant, officials said.
