YANGON (Eleven Media Group/Asia News Network): Passport issuing offices will be opened on Feb 24 and passports can be applied for by means of new online booking system.
Passports can be applied for personally by means of new online booking system through the website www.passport.gov.mm from Feb 24, 2023 as per declaration by the Ministry of Information.
The online booking system will be effective only in the passport issuing office in Yangon. Offices in states and regions will function as dine previously.
There is no time limit with the online booking system and can be applied for easily, and payment will have to be made at the same time. Those who have difficulty in making online booking can ask for assistance at the police stations.
As arrangements have been made for anyone to apply easily, they have been urged not to apply for through payment to brokers.
It has been learnt from those waiting to apply for new passports that it was not possible to get into the website www.passport.gov.mm.
The passport issuing office in Yangon had been closed since Jan 2 and all office work, issuing of new passports, validating old passports had been pended, and the office reopened after nearly two months.
The passport issuing department issued a statement on Dec 4, 2022 that online booking system would be ceased, and asked the public not to purchase the QR Code by paying exorbitant amount of money to brokers.
