Six areas in Philippines on alert as Paeng intensifies into tropical storm


MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network): Tropical Depression Paeng intensified into a tropical storm on Thursday (Oct 27), and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has placed six areas under Signal No. 1.

“Paeng is forecast to reach severe tropical storm category within 24 hours and may intensify into a typhoon by Saturday. The occurrence of rapid intensification in the next 72 hours is not ruled out,” Pagasa said in its 11am bulletin.
