Vietnam Jan-Aug trade surplus at US$5.49 billion, says its customs dept


HANOI, Sept 9 (Reuters): Vietnam registered a trade surplus of US$5.49 billion in the first eight months of this year, government customs data released on Friday showed.

Exports in the January-August period rose 18.2% from a year earlier to US$252.60 billion, while imports were up 13.7% at US$247.11 billion, the Customs Department said in a report.

In August, Vietnam's exports rose 14.1% from July to US$34.92 billion, while imports were up 1.7% to $31.06 billion, the department said.

Vietnam's coffee exports in August were down 1.2% from July at 112,531 tonnes, government customs data showed.

For the first eight months of 2022, Vietnam exported 1.25 million tonnes of coffee, up 15.3% from a year earlier, Vietnam Customs said in a statement.

Coffee export revenue for that period rose 40.4% to about US$2.8 billion, it said. - Reuters
