Litterbug slapped with B$300 fine

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): A man was hit with a B$300 (RM960) fine by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) after he was caught on CCTV disposing trash in a public area.

According to the department, the man was issued a fine on Wednesday after CCTV recorded him tossing trash from a vehicle.

The fine was issued under Section 12(1) Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.

The man was given seven days to settle the fine.

Failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court, and if found guilty, a further fine of no less than B$1,000 (RM3,200) and no more than B$3,000 (RM9,600) will be handed.

JASTRe reminded the public and companies to ensure the cleanliness of the surrounding environment is maintained.
