Myanmar seizes crystal meth headed for Malaysia, arrests suspects

YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar authorities have seized 251kg of crystal methamphetamine in the former capital Yangon, the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control has said.

They also arrested 18 suspects in connection with the case, the committee said in a press release on Monday.

The drugs, worth more than US$3.35 million, were found in a car in Yangon's North Okkalapa township on May 4. Two suspects were captured on the spot, and the rest were arrested in operations later.

The drugs were to be transported to Malaysia, said the release, adding that police had filed cases against the suspects.

Further investigation in cooperation with Thailand and Malaysia was underway, it added.
