BEIJING (Agencies): A Tibet Airlines plane caught fire Thursday morning (May 12) at China’s Chongqing airport after going off the runway, state media reported, adding there had been some injuries among the passengers.
“A flight from Chongqing to Lhasa at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport overran the runway, causing the plane to catch fire,” state broadcaster CCTV said.
The airport closed one of its runways at 8am, according to a notice to airmen that did not cite the reason. The runway is currently scheduled to reopen at noon.
A Tibet Airlines A319 had been taking off at that time, according to FlightRadar24. The runway was closed one minute after FlightRadar24 last tracked the plane.
The airline said all passengers and crew had been evacuated from the aircraft.
CCTV said there were 113 passengers and nine crew on board. Those with injuries had been taken to hospital.
