BANGKOK, May 7 (Bernama): The Hari Raya Open House celebration organised by the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok, Thailand is making its return after a two-year hiatus.
This year, the much-awaited celebration was held on a smaller scale at India-Thai Chamber of Commerce (ITCC), here today.
The joyful celebration was attended by embassy officials and their families, local staffs, members of Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC) and Kelab Malaysia of Thailand (KMT).
Guests were treated to an array of food including Nasi Briyani, Satay, mee goreng, kuih muih and cookies.
The Raya Open House provides an opportunity for Malaysians to enjoy the special Raya traditional dishes, mingle with fellow Malaysians and nurture a closer bond with each other.
Malaysia’s Ambassador to Thailand, Datuk Jojie Samuel and his wife, Datin Catherina Cherian Samuel also gave ‘duit raya’ to the children who joined in the celebration.
In 2020, the Hari Raya Open House was cancelled in compliance with the Thai government’s restrictions on public gathering in efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19. However, the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok initiated ‘Tiffin Raya’ by sending Raya delicacies in colourful tiffin carriers to spread the joy of the festival among Malaysians here.
Last year, in compliance with the Thai government’s restriction on public gathering, the embassy distributed "Raya Goodies” which consisted of Malaysians’ all-time favourite - chicken rendang and lemang, cookies and nuts - to share the festive joy with Malaysians residing in the capital city. - Bernama
