BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 23 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): The leading criterion to de-escalation planning is reaching 80 per cent of the population with completed vaccination schedule in Brunei.

This was said by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Mohd Isham Jaafar during the daily press conference in the capital.

The percentage is based on the updated census totalling 329,000.

The minister said that there is a special committee overseeing the Sultanate head towards the new normal after reaching the vaccination target.

“From there onwards, would we be able to look at other aspects, such as our public healthcare capacity not being overwhelmed and the condition of the positive cases and the numbers of patients showing serious symptoms?” the minister asked.

Dr Mohd Isham reiterated that to reach zero new cases would be complicated and the best way forward is to find ways to live with Covid-19.

The latest National Covid-19 Vaccination Programme figures showed that 3,562 individuals received vaccination on October 21.

Some 346,829 individuals (80.7 per cent of the population) received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 240,978 (56 per cent) have completed their immunisation schedule. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
