MANILA, Oct. 17 (Philippines Daily Inquirer/ANN): The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,913 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, bringing the total tally to 2,720,368.

The DOH also reported that 95 more people died from Covid-19 complications in the country, bringing the overall death toll to 40,675.

The South-East Asian country has recorded a daily rise of fewer than 8,000 cases since Wednesday, while people were urged to remain vigilant against the coronavirus to prevent a new wave of infections.

The DOH reported the highest ever daily tally on Sept. 11, at 26,303 cases.

The active cases make up three percent of the total 2,720,368 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the country since the start of the pandemic. Of the active cases, 87.5 percent are mild or asymptomatic.

The DOH also recorded 10,237 additional recoveries, raising the number of patients who have recuperated to 2,598,052, or 95.5 percent of the tally.

Some 12.5 percent of 53,669 people who were tested were found positive for coronavirus on Friday (Oct 15).

Sixty-two percent of ICU beds, 47 percent of isolation and ward beds, and 46 percent of ventilators are currently being used.

The DOH removed from the total case count 54 duplicate entries, including 35 recoveries, and reclassified 31 recoveries as deaths after final validation.
