MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network): “It’s a YES!”

The Philippines’ first-ever Olympic Games gold medalist, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz on Saturday (Oct 16) announced that she is now engaged to her coach-boyfriend Julius Naranjo.

“It was a magical moment with [Julius]. I’m grateful to God that He sent Julius into my life, he make (makes) my life easy,” Diaz captioned on an Instagram photo where she posed with her Tokyo Olympics gold medal and a ring.

“People know what he sacrificed for us to achieve our dream of Olympic gold, together with Team HD. During the games, I was happy because he said that God is the centre of our relationship. No doubt, I will say yes because I’m lucky to have a loving, understanding, and supportive Julius,” she added.

The photo, showing her gold ring, was taken at Sheraton Hotel where the engagement happened.

In July, Diaz said that she is ready for marriage and is just waiting for Naranjo to pop the question.
