Vietnam reports record high daily Covid-19 cases; total now is above 15, 000

HANOI, June 26 (Xinhua): Vietnam reported 738 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, the highest daily tally since the pandemic hit the country, with the majority detected in the southern Ho Chi Minh City, according to the Ministry of Health.

The new infections included 727 locally transmitted and 11 imported cases, bringing the total tally to 15, 275, the ministry said in its latest report.

Among the domestic cases, 621 were detected in Ho Chi Minh City, 16 in the northern Bac Giang province, and 11 in the northern Hung Yen province.

Most of them are contacts of previously confirmed cases or linked to the clusters of infections in the localities.

Nationwide 6, 137 Covid-19 patients have so far recovered, up 188 from Friday, and nearly 175, 700 people are being quarantined and monitored.

As of Saturday, Vietnam has registered a total of 13, 515 domestically transmitted Covid-19 cases, including 11, 945 detected since the start of the latest outbreak in late April, according to the health ministry.

Vietnam plans to trial its vaccine passport program from July in the northern province of Quang Ninh, under which entrants who have been fully vaccinated or have recovered from Covid-19 and tested negative for the coronavirus upon arrival, will be quarantined for only seven days instead of 21 days, local media reported. - Xinhua
