JAKARTA, May 6 (Xinhua): Fifty-nine international visitors who entered Indonesia from India from December 28, 2020 to April 25, 2021, have tested positive for Covid-19, according to Indonesia's Health Minister on Thursday.

"Of the 59 positive cases, 49 were Indian nationals, 10 Indonesians," said Siti Nadia Tarmizi, the ministry's Director for Prevention and Control of Direct Infectious Diseases.

Amongst the 59 positive cases, 26 arrived in Indonesia on April 10-25, whose specimens are currently being analyzed for whole-genome sequencing to see if they are infected with the new mutated COVID-19 viruses such as B117, B1617, and B1351, which are more contagious.

The B117 variant was first detected in Britain, B1617 in India and B1351 in South Africa.

Since April 25, the Indonesian government has banned entry of foreigners who have traveled to India, amidst the second wave of severe COVID-19 transmission in India.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 5,647 within one day to 1,697,305, with the death toll adding by 147 to 46,496, the health ministry said on Thursday.

According to the ministry, 5,440 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,552,532.

The virus has spread to all the country's 34 provinces.

Specifically, within the past 24 hours, West Java recorded 1,038 new cases, Jakarta 905, Riau 520, West Sumatra 416 and Central Java 353.

No new positive cases were reported in West Sulawesi and North Sulawesi. - Xinhua
