BANGKOK, Jan. 31 (The Nation/ANN): Bangkok Governor Aswin Kwanmuang on Sunday has allowed 37 types of venues in the province to reopen after they had been ordered to close in the aftermath of the second Covid-19 wave.
The governor’s announcement follows approval on Friday (Jan 29) from the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) for relaxation.
The order, approved by the provincial communicable disease prevention committee, will take effect on Monday (Feb 1).
However, pubs, bars, karaoke booths, massage parlours, cockfighting or other types of animal fighting stadium, and child-care centres located in Bang Khun Thian, Bang Khae, Bang Phlat, Chom Thong and Thonburi districts will remain closed.
Some other businesses or activities have also been allowed to open partially.
Meanwhile, restaurants can serve until 11pm but no alcoholic drinks are allowed (people can take alcoholic drinks home)
Thailand, also on Sunday confirmed 829 new Covid-19 cases, mostly found via active testing among migrant workers, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).
Of the new cases, 822 were domestic infections while seven others were imported cases, CCSA assistant spokeswoman Panprapa Yongtrakul told a daily news briefing.
Some 731 new local infections were found via active testing among Myanmar migrants and Thai nationals at factories and communities in Samut Sakhon province and southwestern suburbs of Bangkok, according to Panprapa.
Thailand has so far confirmed 18,782 cases, 16,323 of which were domestic infections while 2,459 others were imported cases, she said.
Of that total, 11,615 patients have fully recovered and been released from hospitals while 7,090 others are currently hospitalised. No new death was reported Sunday, leaving the total death toll at 77, she said.
According to Worldometer, as of 10am on Sunday, the number of confirmed cases globally had increased to 103.14 million (increasing by 501,099), 74.75 million have recovered, 26.14 million are active cases (108,361 in severe condition) and 2.23 million have died (up by 12,638).
Thailand ranks 120th on the global list of most cases. The US tops the list with 26.66 million, followed by India 10.74 million, Brazil 9.17 million, Russia 3.83 million and the United Kingdom 3.8 million.
CCSA assistant spokeswoman Dr Panprapa Yongtrakul said a report from AiMask, mask detection technology, around 2.59 per cent of people in Bangkok didn’t wear mask properly or didn’t wear at all in the morning and 3.02 per cent after work hours.
During January 21-27,97.53 per cent of Bangkokians in 15 district wore masks correctly, 1.42 per cent wore it wrongly, and 1.05 per cent didn’t wear a mask. - The Nation Thailand/ANN
