HONG KONG (Xinhua): Greater Bay Airlines Company Limited has applied to Hong Kong’s Air Transport Licensing Authority to operate routes between the special administrative region and 104 destinations.

According to a Hong Kong government gazette published on Friday (Jan 22), the point of departure would be Hong Kong International Airport.

Of the 104 destinations, 48 are mainland cities, four in China's Taiwan, while the remaining ones include Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok and other Asia-Pacific cities. Greater Bay Airlines will provide passenger transport, freight transport and mail services.

Greater Bay Airlines was founded by businessman Bill Wong Cho-bau, who also operates Donghai Airlines in Shenzhen.

In October 2020, Cathay Pacific Airways ceased operation of its subsidiary Cathay Dragon due to the impact of Covid-19.

At present, there are three passenger airlines in Hong Kong -- Cathay Pacific, Cathay Pacific's Hong Kong Express, and Hong Kong Airlines.
