VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Laos has achieved excellent result in Covid-19 control and prevention, as the country recorded no new confirmed cases for 73 consecutive days, Lao Ministry of Health said in its press release on Wednesday (June 24).
Lao government announced an initial victory in the battle against Covid-19 on June 11, after all 19 patients infected by the virus were discharged from hospitals.
However, the Lao government continues to implement preventive measures, and has urged authorities and people countrywide to fully comply with government guidelines to prevent a second wave of Covid-19 outbreak.
On Tuesday, a total of 1,842 people entered Laos through international border checkpoints. The temperature of each person entering Laos was checked and no one showed signs of fever.
According to the report, 2,828 people have been quarantined at 91 accommodation centres across the country.
The National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control has urged everyone to continue to regularly wash their hands with soap, and to wear a face mask when going outside their homes and in crowded places. People must also continue to practise social distancing.
As of Wednesday, Laos has tested 13,507 suspected cases with 19 cases tested positive, and all of them have been discharged from hospitals.
Laos announced its first two Covid-19 confirmed cases on March 24, and the last patient was discharged on June 9. - Xinhua
