PKNS release Nazmi to Selangor

PETALING JAYA: Relegation-haunted PKNS FC have surprisingly released national midfielder Mohd Nazmi Faiz Mansor to play for Selangor in the Super League.

Club president Siti Zubaidah Abdul Jabar said in a press statement yesterday that they had parted ways amicably with the 20-year-old national footballer.

“We have released Nazmi in the best interest of the development of the game in Selangor. We believe his absence will not affect the team’s performance in the competition. We wish him all the best,” said Siti on Monday.

Last year, Nazmi had a brief six-month stint with Portugal side Beira Mar SC before returning to join PKNS FC. Nazmi was also a member of the 2011 SEA Games squad who won the gold medal in Jakarta.

PKNS team manager Mahfizul Abdul Rashid said they have roped in former Felda United player Shahurain Abu Samah to strengthen to the team.

“We hope the two-week break will allow the coach to re-organise the team,” said Mahfizul.

PKNS are 10th in the 12-team Super League standings with 14 points from 14 matches. Armed Forces (12 points) and Perak (10 points) occupy the last two spots.

Selangor, without a silverware in the last three seasons, must be rubbing their hands in glee with the signing of Nazmi as they seek to go for the Super League title.

The Red Giants are second in the standings with 27 points – trailing leader Pahang by a point.
